MEEKER | The Meeker Regional Library hosts a Storytime for kids every Wednesday morning, including several stories read aloud and followed with craft time.
Last week’s Storytime had some extra special co-hosts, Meeker’s newest local author Dessa Watson and her celebrity sheep, Strawberry and Blueberry, and goat Pinkerton. Watson brought along her new children’s book, “Ewe Bee Ewe: A Sheep Tail,” to read to the crowd of more than 40 kids.
The story features Neon Leon the sheep and his farm companions, with a lesson in being the brightest you that you can be, and the power of a positive attitude. It also includes engaging exercises, fun sheep facts, and a section on agricultural education. The book was written, illustrated, and self-published by Watson, and features photos of her animals in character that she has taken during their many adventures. Along with the story, the kids in attendance were shown the tricks the sheep have learned, and were able to pet, feed and even walk the sheep, and were given a ball of their wool to take home as a souvenir with a mini-lesson about its uses and about good agricultural practices.
Watson has an extensive background in children’s education, agricultural literacy and education, and has a passion for animal intelligence and behavior. She currently has multiple other titles in the works, with plans for stories about all the other fantastic Farm.ily members coming in the future.
Her book is available for sale on Amazon, and you can follow all their farm adventures on social media and arrange to visit the animals yourself for walks, or as guests at your next party or event by visiting her website, www.thefunnyfarmily.com.
