Dave Myers: New book released on Hairy Biker and Dave Day

The ‘Tribute to the Late Dave Myers’ has been penned by David Banks, aged 77, who used his love of the Hairy Bikers to put the 100-page book together.

Inside, there are laments, recipes, a collection of photographs from Dave Day in June, stories about Dave, and poems written by Sarah Church and Sy Martin.

The funds raised through the book will be going to The Institute of Cancer Research and a Motor Neurone Disease charity, which David has so far raised £3125 for.

He said: “I was once a motorcyclist myself but, as the years rolled by, I left two wheels and briefly had three before purchasing my first four wheeler.

“Because of my disability, I have to have that four wheeler now – a hybrid Jeep – and God willing, I would love to use it to get to Barrow to present the book to the Lord Mayor next June in person.”

The hardback book features contributions from fellow Hairy Biker fans, as well as an acknowledgement from Lili Myers, Dave’s wife.

In the book, she says: “I thank the people of Barrow in showing their hospitality to the bikers who came to pay homage to your Barrow boy.”

On June 8 earlier this year, thousands of motorbike enthusiasts travelled from London to the south Cumbrian town to celebrate the life of its most famous son.

Through the grand occasion, over £100,000 was raised for the Cancer Research and NSPCC Childline, with this book just the latest bout of fundraising inspired by Myers.

“Writing a book like this, off the record so to speak, was a challenge,” David added.

“The Hairy Bikers are a legend and Dave was very much part of that legend – I hope I got it right.”
