Kaleb Cooper shares highs and lows of farming in new book

The farming contractor from Chipping Norton, who shot to fame as the breakout star of Jeremy Clarkson’s hit reality series, shares the highs and lows of farming life in It’s a Farming Thing.

His first book, The World According to Kaleb, was an instant Sunday Times bestseller and he was recently persuaded to temporarily leave Chippy on a successful countrywide theatre tour.

In the third book he tells some of the unexpected adventures of farming life, from wrestling with temperamental tractors to dodging cantankerous cows with plenty of the deadpan gags and unique observations that have had TV audiences in stitches.

Kaleb has been working in farming since he was at Chipping Norton School and studied agriculture at Moreton Morrell College.

When his second book Britain According to Kaleb came out he told the Oxford Mail: “Farming’s not a job. I don’t think anyone says, oh I’ve got to get up in the morning to go and milk some cows. It’s more a way of life and I think that’s come across in the programme and I think people have been inspired.

He added: “I get lots and lots of messages. It’s like that thing in school where you have to write to someone you’ve been inspired by and I get lots and lots of them and I reply to all of them and give them advice to help them get into farming.”

To support the next generation of farmers, he has launched an agricultural bursary through the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester and also released a charity single and music video, I Can’t Stand Sheep to raise awareness of RABI.

He said: “As a young person getting into the industry it’s incredibly hard. And I found that because my mum and dad are not from a farming background.

“The bursary is there to help young students come along into this industry and give them a helping hand along the way.”

When he’s not working, he spends time with his wife and two children and collects tractors and cars.

He added: “I want my son and my daughter to both go into farming but if they don’t want to be a farmer I never want to push them.”

Season 3 of Clarkson’s Farm is still airing on Prime Video with production already under way on Season 4.
