LOOPcast interviews author of book confronting ‘Gender Ideology Cult’

CV NEWSFEED // On July 26, LOOPcast hosts Tom Pogasic and CatholicVote Vice President Joshua Mercer were joined by guest hostess Mary Margaret Olohan from the Daily Signal to discuss her new book “Detrans: True Stories of Escaping the Gender Ideology Cult.”

Olohan’s latest book covers the horrors of transgender medicine, otherwise known as “gender-affirming care.”

“If you could, just a brief summary of the book, and I’d like to dig a little bit into your experience writing it,” said Pogasic.

“I have been reporting on the culture war issues for I’d like to say a long time,” said Olohan. The Catholic author stated that she has generally reported on the issues that are close to her heart and the heart of the Church concerning the dignity of the human person.

“I started seeing all these stories popping up about people who had tried to transition and then realized that’s impossible and tried to go back to their normal biological sex,” Olohan continued. “At the time I wasn’t sure how to cover them because all of these people were anonymous, and it was very vague and horrible and sad.”

Olohan’s empathetic response to these transition horror stories helped drive her to report the truth about so-called “gender-affirming care” in the United States.

“It was so sad that I thought ‘Okay I need to tell these stories.’”

Olohan compiled the stories of five individuals who had attempted to “transition” away from their true sex. The individuals recounted their experiences with hormones, surgery, and the pain that transitioning caused them.

“It’s really told in their own words, because my goal with this wasn’t to just say ‘transitioning is bad,’” Olohan explained. “I knew and I’ve seen the power of storytelling, and how these stories can change hearts and minds just by being the truth.”

Olohan stated that the collaboration between her and the people she wrote about was about reaching hearts and minds with empathy, not “narratives.” The detransitioners wanted to help and reach other struggling children and their parents.

They’re trying to be that light in the darkness for other kids and it’s really beautiful and sad. But really inspiring too because they are the only people who have that unique ability to be that light in the darkness for other kids.

“An incredible project, I highly recommend everyone to go grab the book,” said Pogasic.
