A new independent bookshop is opening next week as two passionate owners look to leave their mark.
The Words and Wonders bookshop is the passion of sisters Sarah Rogers and Penny Price – and will be opening in Downham on Thursday.
Both Sarah and Penny are passionate about the joys and benefits of reading for young and old, and want to share that passion with the book community.
Penny has more than 30 years of experience as a bookseller, working for Harper Collins, Waterstones and Heffers – as well as being the buyer for Ely Cathedral shops for the past nine years.
Sarah’s background is in teaching and education, and she has run a successful training company for the last 18 years working with early years teachers.

Words and Wonders can be found at 35 High Street in Downham, where it will offer a great range of beautiful books for adults and children alongside a small range of locally sourced gifts and cards.
Penny and Sarah are planning many events involving storytelling for young readers, meet-the author events, and book club groups.
Sarah will work with schools and families to foster a passion of reading among their earliest readers, while Penny will ensure that everyone who comes into the bookshop to browse and buy will find something they like.
They aim to make everyone feel welcome, and can’t wait to welcome young and old this week when they open.
Mo the bookshop dog will be there to meet and greet too.
Sarah said: “The response to our bookshop opening has been fantastic and we are proud to become part of the Downham Market great independent shop community.”
