Peter Marino ‘Ten Modern Houses’ Book: Exclusive Details, Photos

Peter Marino is giving further insight into his creative process through a new book.

The renowned architect next month will release a luxury edition of his latest book, “Ten Modern Houses” with Phaidon, offering an in-depth look at 10 of his private residential projects across the globe. The book retails for $350.

The book is broken up into 10 chapters with the first nine focusing on a specific private residence Marino designed. The chapters offer an array of never-before-seen photographs accompanied by text from journalist Sam Lubell that showcase Marino’s approach to materials and design elements.

This edition is signed, bound in black leatherette and accompanied with a black, piano-laquered X bookstand.

“I have tried to faithfully follow the spirit of the places that I built upon,” Marino said in a statement. “My world is very much about materials. I’ve strived to design homes where aesthetics and functionality rule over all other constraints.”

The book covers Marino’s projects in locations like Southampton, N.Y.; Aspen, Colo.; Faqra, Lebanon; Ramatuelle, France; Skorpios, Greece, and the Dominican Republic.

“Ten Modern Houses” is rounded out with its final chapter that showcases a series of projects under development, which give readers a look at Marino’s next residential project.

The book also features an introduction written by Pilar Viladas, the former design editor of T Magazine, who discusses Marino’s design process and the unique characteristics of each home.

Marino has been a fixture in the fashion world for decades thanks to his acclaimed and unique retail projects for luxury brands like Tiffany & Co., Chanel, Fendi, Louis Vuitton and others.

Marino’s new book comes after the architect received the Andrew Markopoulos Award in January, which recognizes outstanding retail and design professionals. In February, Marino continued his longtime partnership with Tiffany by establishing an art exhibition with his pieces from his own collection at the retailer’s new Fifth Avenue flagship.
