Renowned TV host and writer, Victoria Tang, launched her new book, “I Love Hong Kong — Unleashing Infinite Potential” (referred to as “I Love Hong Kong”), at the recent Hong Kong Book Fair this year. The book is ranked number five on the Joint Publishing Bestseller List. A sharing session was held on July 22nd where the author, Victoria Tang, shared the content of her new book and discussed her creative journey as well as the design rationale behind the book cover. Victoria also interacted with guests and readers, answering questions related to this project.
Victoria stated that for her, “I Love Hong Kong” is not just a book or a TV show, but her life mission. She has a sense of responsibility to revive the glory of Hong Kong. Victoria said, “The nation and Hong Kong are on the path to a better and happier future. I have chosen heart-warming and inspirational real-life examples to tell China’s stories well”. The red Hong Kong landmarks on the cover of “I Love Hong Kong” are the same colour as the national flag and the Hong Kong SAR flag, symbolizing that Hong Kong is backed by the motherland and has the support from the country, which gives Hong Kong lots of strength.
Victoria believes that the experiences of Hong Kong elites in developing their careers can piece together the blueprint for Hong Kong’s social progress, revealing Hong Kong people’s contributions to modern Chinese history and witnessing the country’s prosperity and development, as well as participating in the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. “I Love Hong Kong” explores the strengths and opportunities in key areas of Hong Kong, such as administration policy, technological innovation, entertainment, culture, real estate, and education, enhancing public confidence in Hong Kong as an ideal place to live and work, and inspiring everyone’s love for Hong Kong. It also presents the many benefits of returning to Hong Kong from overseas, encouraging talents to come back and settle in Hong Kong, and make greater achievements with the development of the country and Hong Kong. At the same time, “I Love Hong Kong” attracts talents and investments from the mainland and overseas to revitalize the Hong Kong economy. Hong Kong has successfully integrated into the national development landscape, and Victoria strives to continue deepening exchanges and cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland, promoting cultural integration.
The sharing session featured former Secretary for Security and current Legislative Council Member, Lai Tung-kwok, GBS, IDSM, JP as well as the third generation of the Sun Hung Kai Properties Kwok family and member of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, Kimberly Kwok Hew-chee. They discussed the political, economic, and educational development of Hong Kong. Yu Keling, the Director and Editor-in-Chief of Joint Publishing (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd., also delivered a speech at the book sharing session.
Lai Tung-kwok stated that the implementation of the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance is the “Great Wall” and the “pillar of stability” that safeguards the prosperity of the country and Hong Kong. In addition to effectively eliminating various hidden national security threats, it also comprehensively protects the personal safety, rights, and freedoms of citizens, allowing everyone to live and develop their careers without worries. He emphasized that the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance explicitly emphasizes the respect and protection of citizens’ human rights and freedoms. Therefore, there is no need to worry about a loss of freedom, and the general public would never engage in activities that harm national security. Hence, there is absolutely no need to worry about violating relevant laws.
Kimberly shared that as Hong Kong is located in the Greater Bay Area and connected to the mainland, it can integrate and learn from the educational achievements of the country. She believes that Hong Kong belongs to the branch of traditional Chinese culture in terms of language and culture. Students studying in Hong Kong can inherit the wisdom and virtues of Chinese civilization. Kimberly mentioned that the best national education for children under the age of six is to let them visit different cities in the mainland, personally experience the fun aspects of the country, including culture, historical sites, traditional crafts, as well as new technologies and architecture. This is the most direct way to help children understand the history and development of the country, naturally building their national identity.
Victoria expressed her hope that readers and viewers in Hong Kong, mainland China, and overseas could see the tremendous progress and development of the country and Hong Kong in “I Love Hong Kong”. If readers resonate with the book and the TV show, feel touched, or have curiosity, she encourages them to come to Hong Kong and mainland China, delve into understanding the development of Hong Kong and mainland China, and experience the historical culture, understand the current national situation, engage in more culture exchanges, and build more friendships.
