MaryAnn Milton Butterfield Set to Exhibit Children’s Fiction Book On Racist Bullying at Hong Kong Book Fair 2024

The Hong Kong Book Fair is an opportunity to celebrate many local authors while also giving visitors a glimpse of the cultural situation in other countries via their works. So, for MaryAnn Butterfield, that makes it a good opportunity to demonstrate America’s push for more inclusivity in its schools and the mounting calls to end racist attitudes still persisting even among young children. Her children’s story offers a true-to-life example of how this can be achieved.

“A model for anti-bullying behavior in the elementary classroom.” – Kirkus Review

Global publishers often participate in the Hong Kong Book Fair to offer their authors a marketing entry point to one of Asia’s biggest reading markets.

On the other hand, there are others who care less about selling and really more about sharing an important cultural message about where they come from and what they hope to achieve.

That’s the mission of MaryAnn Milton Butterfield, a former non-fiction author who is now using her experiences in child development to create stories that shape young readers into better human beings.

For the Hong Kong Book Fair 2024, she arranged to exhibit “Don’t Call Me That! My Name is Michael,” a story about the problem of racist attitudes even among America’s elementary school youth. It follows a boy named Michael Kim, an Asian-American who encounters hostile, racial bullying for the very first time and the series of troubling events that follow it because he is too scared to report the behavior.

“Don’t Call Me That! My Name is Michael” is a book that doesn’t depart from a real-life experience that Butterfield had and how it’s become important to educate children about when “fun” ends and “racist bullying” begins.

Readers can learn how “Don’t Call Me That! My Name is Michael” further expounds on the issue when it goes on display at the Hong Kong Book Fair 2024. The book fair will take place from July 17 to 23, 2024, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Harbor Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. Attendees can find the book displayed at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit at Booth 1C-C37.

The book is available in paperback, hardcover, and eBook on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and ReadersMagnet Bookstore. News about MaryAnn Milton Butterfield’s other upcoming children’s books is available on her website at www.butterfieldstories.com.
