The Bookseller – Rights – HarperFiction scoops ‘bold and brilliant’ novel from Dawn O’Porter

HarperFiction has scooped Honeybee, the “buzzy” new novel from Dawn O’Porter about female friendship.

World rights were acquired by publishing director Charlotte Brabbin and former managing director Kimberley Young from Sington and Co.

Told with O’Porter’s “trademark warmth and relatability”, Honeybee tells the story of best friends Renée and Flo who, after years apart, return to Guernsey in their early twenties. The synopsis continues: “But early adulthood isn’t as sweet as they hoped. Navigating newfound freedoms, as well as sticky situations in work and love, will the bonds of female friendship hold strong when Renée and Flo need each other most?”

Brabbin commented: “Honeybee is a story that transports you right back to those gloriously messy days of early adulthood. It’s also outrageously funny and so humbling in reminding us that, try as we might, we’ll never stop growing into ourselves. It’s bold and brilliant, just like Dawn, and we can’t wait for her hive of fans to fall in love with Honeybee this autumn.”

O’Porter added: “Getting back on the page with Renée and Flo has been one of my favourite writing experiences to date. I love these characters so much. I’ve poured my heart and soul into their lives and watching them grow up in Honeybee has been wonderful.

“Honeybee is everything I think my readers expect. Funny, heartfelt, with a big emotional punch and the kinds of scenes that have you blushing on your commute. I’m not sure I’ve ever been more excited to release a novel.”
