Queen Camilla to launch book club podcast in January

The Queen’s Reading Room, a charity and online book club formed by Queen Camilla, is debuting its first podcast series featuring insights from the Queen herself.

Launching on 8 January, the eight-episode series titled The Queen’s Reading Room Podcast will feature a number of guests including author Ian Rankin, actress Dame Joanna Lumley, comedian David Baddiel and more, sharing their love of books and literature.

The podcast is hosted by The Queen’s Reading Room CEO Vicki Perrin and will feature insights from the Queen in each episode, talking about her literary favourites. In addition to the main interviews, a special episode will be released at the end of the series featuring lexicographer and media personality Susie Dent.

“There is nothing quite like a brilliant book recommendation from a friend; but it’s even better when that person is one of your favourite authors or most admired persons,” said Perrin. “I hope that this podcast will inspire listeners to new literary adventures and help those wishing to love books a little more, find the books which set their imaginations alight.”

A number of other Royal Family members have hosted or appeared on podcasts including the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle who hosted Spotify-exclusive podcast Archetypes in 2022. The series wrapped this year after Spotify ended its multi-year content deal with Markle and Prince Harry’s audio-first production company Archewell Audio.

Princess Kate Middleton, Prince William and Princess Anne also recently made a surprise guest appearance in September on sports podcast The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, which is co hosted by Mike Tindall, former professional rugby player and husband of Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Phillips.

The Queen’s Reading Room Podcast will be available to listen to across all major podcast platforms from 8 January ahead of the Queen’s Reading Room Festival at Hampton Court Palace, which will be returning next year on 8 June.
