Author Harriet Tyce helps launch Wrexham Carnival of Words

The 2023 Wrexham Carnival of Words was launched at Wrexham Library in a special event with thriller writer Harriet Tyce, hosted by Sue Miller of Team Author UK.

Harriet entertained the audience with extracts from her blisteringly realistic crime novels, and responded to questions from her literary fans. One described it as “a wonderful evening with a great author in the friendly setting of the library”.

Three times Sunday Times bestselling author and a barrister, Harriet’s first novel, Blood Orange, published in 2019, met with great critical acclaim and was long listed for the Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year in 2019. It went on to be one of the biggest selling books of 2020, winning a Neilson Gold Award for the sale of over half a million copies.

The Lies You Told, Harriet’s second novel, was published in 2020 and went on to become a Sunday Times bestseller, as did her third novel, It Ends At Midnight, which was published in 2022 and went to hit number two in the paperback charts.

The launch event was a foretaste of the exciting and varied programme that will take place during the Carnival of Words between April 22-29.

Amongst authors appearing this year will be several other crime and thriller writers, including Tim Weaver, Jenny Blackhurst, Fflur Dafydd, Conrad Jones and Glenda Young.

Other book genres will include an evening of historical fiction with authors Angus Donald and Matthew Harffy, and a special pre-recorded interview with Bernard Cornwell which is being broadcast for the first time.

Hugely popular romantic novelist Mike Gayle, the original ‘agony uncle’, and a double bill with Lucy Diamond and Erica James will also feature during the week.

Poetry will also be represented, including a visit by the National Poet of Wales, Hanan Issa, celebrated local poet Aled Lewis Evans, and an open mic for local poets during the Viva Voce evening.

The full programme can be viewed at wrexhamcarnivalofwords.com and tickets can be bought online or at Wrexham Library.
