Cate Campbell and Cody Simpson’s final chance to book ticket to Paris Olympics, Day 6 schedule, events, final swim team

The final day at the Australian Olympic swimming trials is here, with all eyes on Cate Campbell and Cody Simpson in particular as the pair look to book their tickets to Paris.

Campbell, aiming to qualify for a fifth Olympic Games, missed the 100m freestyle final by one-hundredth of a second but put the heartbreak behind her to win her heat and then qualify as the sixth-fastest for the 50m final in Brisbane on Saturday.

Campbell needs a top-two finish in the final to guarantee a spot for Paris but that is far from a lock given both Shayna Jack, Meg Harris and Emma McKeon represent stiff competition while sister Bronte will also be in action in the final.

Jack (24.02) topped the times in the heats, with Harris the next fastest at 24.47 followed by Bronte (24.56), McKeon (24.72), Olivia Wunsch (24.73), Campbell (24.85), Mollie O’Callaghan (24.87) and Alexandria Perkins (25.02).

In case you missed it, Jack already secured her first-ever Olympic appearance with a second-place finish in the 100m freestyle final on Friday night.

Elsewhere, Simpson qualified fifth for the 100m butterfly final after winning his heat with a time of 51.78. Matt Temple (51.46) was the top qualifier.

Other events on Saturday night include the men’s and women’s 400m individual medley and the women’s 1500m freestyle.

Australia will announce its team for the Paris Olympics after the final event.

AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC SWIM TRIALS

To qualify for the Olympic team, a swimmer must finish in the top two of the A final of their event, and meet Swimming Australia’s qualifying time (which is tougher than the global standard).

A swimmer only needs to qualify in one event to make the team, and can then attempt other events as well.

The meet is being held at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre and can be watched on Nine and 9Now, with the finals from 7:30pm AEST each night.

The final team will be announced on Saturday night.
