Geelong events to be included in Melbourne Art Book Fair

GEELONG is set to host a string of events as the region takes part in the tenth annual Melbourne Art Book Fair for the first time.

The fair celebrates the art of book publishing and includes areas outside Melbourne as part of their regional program.

Regional Program Curator Isabella Farchione said there’s a real abundance in the Geelong program.

“It’s been awesome to be able to bring it down here for the inaugural year,” she said.

“It’s been a really important to be able to bring these programs regionally so that people can access them and everyone’s able to partake.

The May’d Arts Festival will transform Geelong’s Centre Point Arcade from May 31 until June 1 with a maker’s market, interactive workshops, art, books and more.

At the Geelong Library the Zines vending machine will launch, as they hold a number of workshops for both kids and adults on June 1.

For the kids, the Geelong Arts Centre will host two shows of How to Catch a Star, while at the Geelong Gallery kids can create their own art books.

Ms Farchione said they’re hoping for a “massive hustle and bustle” within the Geelong community as they deliver the events.

“When it comes to regional living it’s so important to have a strong sense of community in the art world.

“Creative publishing is really great with bringing people together and questioning ideas and sharing independent artists work and starting conversations.”

Ms Farchione said, there’s something for everyone with a lot of the programs being low cost, or free.

Events will run across the region from May 23 until June 1, with some also taking place across the Bellarine and Surf Coast communities.
