SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Saturday is the 120th birthday of Theodor Geisel, who wrote and illustrated dozens of books under the pen name Dr. Seuss.
To celebrate Seuss’ birthday, education experts at ABCmouse analyzed Google Trends Search Data over the past 20 years to find out which Dr. Seuss book is every state’s favorite.
Many states’ most popular books are classics such as “The Cat in the Hat,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” and “Hop on Pop.” South Dakota’s is a lesser-known story from 1984 that tackles themes of retaliation and accepting differences that was inspired by the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union.
“The Butter Battle Book” is South Dakota’s favorite Dr. Seuss book, according to the data. South Dakota is the only state where “The Butter Battle Book” is the most searched.
Minnesota’s favorite Dr. Seuss book is “The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins” and Iowa’s is “The Foot Book.” Both states are also the only ones to have their respective books as their favorites.
