Drum ‘n’ bass legend Marcus Intalex to be focus of new biography – News

A new book celebrating the late drum ‘n’ bass legend Marcus Intalex, AKA Marcus Kaye, is set for release on October 4.

How You Make Me Feel: The Life & Legacy of Marcus Intalex has been written by Sherif Dhaimish and Mark O’Donnell, and charts the life and impact of the iconic producer and DJ, who sadly passed in 2017.

His story is described as “a genre-transcending story of passion, creativity and timeless underground music.”

The book is set to contain insights from legends of the scene such as Goldie, Calibre, DJ Flight, Doc Scott and Mark XTC, and features over 100 rare photos, pieces of artwork, and memorabilia across its 176 pages.

As part of the book’s announcement on Instagram, publishers shared several quotes from genre legends and friends of Intalex – including Goldie who labels the Mancunian producer as being as “impactful to drum ‘n’ bass as J Dilla was to hip hop”.

Calibre talks about the feeling of first hearing one of Marcus’ seminal hits ‘How You Make Me Feel’: “It confirmed feelings I had about drum ‘n’ bass and its capacity for beauty in the dance.”

Zed Bias also pays a sweet tribute to his late friend: “Marcus’ legacy runs deeper than his catalogue,” he writes. “He was a bloody genius.”

The Manchester based artist had a huge impact on the drum ’n’ bass scene, curating a number of seminal releases via his iconic Soul:r and Revolve:r labels, as well as exploring techno and house productions later in his career under his Trevino alias, before dying suddenly in 2017. Read more about his legacy here.

In May 2023, his final album ‘Back’ was launched as a posthumous release on his Birdie label, which featured a selection of house and techno tracks that he had produced while living in Berlin, following on from the release of his ‘Front’ album in 2016.

Following his death, the Marcus Intalex Music Foundation was founded in 2018 to honour his legacy, and “to support and nurture talent in many aspects of music development and its culture”.
