The Bookseller – News – HCCB launches young adult imprint Harper Fire

HarperCollins Children’s Books (HCCB) is launching a “dynamic and stand-out” YA imprint, Harper Fire, led by publishing director Natalie Doherty.

All HCCB editors will commission into the list, including editorial director Tom Bonnick and commissioning editor Megan Reid, with the first book Compass and Blade by Rachel Greenlaw, publishing on the 29th February 2024.

HCCB is already home to YA stars John Green, Alice Oseman, David Levithan and Veronica Ross. The publisher said major acquisitions will be published under the new imprint, including S F Williamson’s A Language of Dragons, Salomey Doku’s Brielle & Bear and Lauren Wilson’s The Goldens.

HarperCollins said the new imprint is a chance to “publish stand-out, quality books that represent all YA readers, authors, and stories”. Harper Fire will launch with a distinct social media presence to ensure a “significant” presence at the Young Adult Literature Convention in 2024.

Doherty said: “We’re delighted to launch Harper Fire, which becomes home to a list of truly stellar voices, with much more to come. Harper Fire allows us to put the very best YA directly into the hands of readers who are as passionate about standout, quality storytelling as we are.”

Cally Poplak, managing director at HarperCollins Children’s Books and Farshore, said: “This standalone imprint not only allows us the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the brilliant YA authors we already publish, and to grow our publishing in this hugely dynamic market, it also enables us to develop our relationship with YA readers.”
